About Steven Sanders
Steven Sanders has been for Amherst his entire life. He grew up here, went away to college and started his career just down the Thruway in Rochester. He soon returned to the community he loves because he knew it was the place he wanted to raise his family. Steven is running for Amherst Town Board because of his strong feelings of personal responsibility for the future of the town. The best way for a person to ensure the successful future of his community is to use his considerable skills and experience in its service.
Steven graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics and Business Management in 1991. In 1993 he earned a MBA at the University of Rochester. Steven has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1995 and has operated his own practice since 2000. As a small business owner he is solely responsible for his own success or failure. His continued success at handling his clients' business issues through identification, analysis and communication has prepared him for the rigors of town government.
Steven also shares his knowledge and experience as a teacher and mentor for up and coming business leaders. He administered and taught workshops and classes on How to Start and Run a Small Business sponsored by the University at Buffalo, Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership from 1997 until 2004. He has been an Associate Faculty Member with the University of Phoenix Online since 2002, facilitating online graduate and undergraduate accounting courses including financial accounting, intermediate accounting, managerial accounting and tax. He has also been an Adjunct Instructor for Medaille College since 2006, teaching graduate and undergraduate financial and managerial accounting courses.
Steven has been an active member of various associations and committees since returning to the area, lending his time and expertise for the advancement of his community.
He was a founding member of the Harlem-Kensington-Cleveland Business Association and currently serves as its Treasurer.
He is the President of the Buffalo Va'ad HaKashruth, a not-for-profit organization that provides Kosher supervision to area businesses.
He has served on the Town of Amherst Employee Suggestion Review Committee for the past three years; a committee with a great purpose that is sadly underutilized.
Steven continues to travel throughout the town listening to the concerns of various groups, associations and citizens. Please contact Steven to discuss your ideas for Amherst.
